NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community development organization that has, for more than 40 years, helped to revitalize neighborhoods and improve lives throughout the region by addressing the housing needs in our community. Our vision for strong, healthy neighborhoods is built on resident empowerment, neighborhood revitalization, sustainable homeownership, and public-private partnerships.
Aging in Place
Our Aging in Place program provides homeowners age 60 and above with services that focus on assisting them to continue living safely and with dignity in their home and community. Through our program, NeighborWorks collaborates with human services organizations to evaluate individual needs and provide small home repairs, critical safety modifications and community services specific to each homeowner’s lifestyle to preserve their home and their independence. Surveys with our clients show they’re mentally and physically healthier, feel safer at home, and engage with their family and friends more.
Homeownership Center
Our Homeownership Center helps prepare prospective first-time homebuyers for their big purchase. Since long-term, responsible homeownership is our goal, we work with homebuyers throughout the entire process to ensure success and eliminate "surprises" for those unfamiliar with the responsibilities of homeownership. As a HUD-approved counseling agency and a chartered member of NeighborWorks America, we are a local name to trust. We provide homebuyer education classes, personalized housing & credit counseling services, and affordable financing products for modest-income families.
Community Development
The goal of Community Development is to improve our local communities in a way that makes a lasting impact on the quality of life of its residents. We tailor our program efforts by partnering locally with residents, community leaders and organizations to best address real concerns and improve their lives. We support efforts to build vibrant local communities that provide equitable opportunities for people to thrive, whether it is through our Beautiful Blocks facade improvement program, vacant lot cleanups, or our 10-year West Scranton Neighborhood revitalization plan.
