Melody Robinson, Aging in Place Lead Specialist II - Wayne County, at NeighborWorks Northeastern Pennsylvania, has become a Dementia Friends Champion through Dementia Friends Pennsylvania, a statewide initiative focused on building greater understanding of dementia and supporting people living with the disease.
As a Dementia Friends Champion, Melody has learned more about how dementia can affect people and simple ways to support someone living with dementia. Champions serve as ambassadors for Dementia Friends and lead information sessions that help participants better understand dementia, learn ways to communicate and offer support, and recognize how small actions can make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia.
The program aligns with NeighborWorks’ Aging in Place work to help older adults remain in their homes with safety and dignity. Building communities where people living with dementia are understood and supported is an important part of creating neighborhoods where older adults can continue to live, participate and feel connected. Through Dementia Friends Pennsylvania, Melody can share this information with others in Wayne County and help bring greater awareness of dementia to the communities that NeighborWorks serves.
